Facebook: a few of my pet hates
Social Media

Facebook-largeSocial media, well mainly Facebook, has allowed people from various stages of your life to get in touch. Not all of them welcome, there is no need to accept them, however out of a sense of politeness you do. An unfortunate side effect of this is that they may start irritating you again and in new ways too. There’s some things that I regularly see on Facebook that really grinds my gears. Not identifying anyone in particular, this is a quick post about some things that really annoy me on Facebook.

1. Liking your own status.

I mean why, obviously people know this piece of text is relevant to you otherwise you wouldn’t off posted. As Paul found out:

PCFBlike

2. Blatant attention seeking.

Posting with the sole intention of having some ego stroking responses come in.

3. The need to reply to the more dramatic posts, with the word ‘chick’ or ‘hun’.

So many posts about personal problems - just enough to let people know you’re having an issue but not enough for them to gauge what it is – result in the classic response ‘What’s up chick/hon?’.Makes my teeth hurt.

4. People who feel the need to post about everything.

I cannot prove this but a friend of mine has a story about another friend/acquaintance’s son who was having a severe asthma attack. Instead of rushing them to the hospital, they waited to boot their laptop up and post ‘Taking XXX to the hospital, he’s had a bad asthma attack’. Just realised this kind of falls into the same annoyance as point 2.

5. Posting things that should remain private

Over the last couple of years, I’ve seen posts about miscarriages, deaths, love-life woes; these tragedies had happened extreamly recently too. I just think that in a world where you have the ability to tell a lot of people something very quickly, privacy is more important than ever.

Finally, I also hate text speak and bad grammar. That’s my worst gripe!
