A recent family wedding triggered my idea for this post, my uncle was getting married and when there’s a Swain family do and because there’s a lot of muso’s in the family, we always have live music. My unc’ passed down his 1976 vintage Fender Telecaster, to me about 13 years ago so I took it along to let the old chap have a burn on it again.
Anyway, I was setting up my dad’s Vox amp and realised what a bad interface existed compared to my other amp: an Orange. This post covers two of my favourite topics: user-experience and guitar amps.
Having completed the Swains website earlier this week, bar the DNS propagation, I had some downtime so decided to write a post about the site and the software used. Hopefully the site should soon be available at www.theswains.net. There's a temporary link over in the portfolio section of IWG.net. The whole purposes of this site is to promote gigs and prevent local agents taking bookings on behalf of the band... and then charging 20% of the fee: kind of like a band pimp.
Myself and a colleague have been having some discussions recently about the re-purposing of a site’s resources section. When I think of the term ‘resource’ I think of a downloadable document you can use in whatever area you’re based, at your own leisure. These resources are all HTML documents. I don’t think this the best way to represent the information.
Sitting down we thought about what relationships existed between these files; could it be date, format, discipline, subject area, etc.
I wanted to share this site I stumbled across the other day, Life Is Beautiful. It’s a completely pointless site in my opinion, but very nice to use. It's simple nature means everything you need is on the front page; everything except why someone took the time to create this site. It feels really fluid and there isn’t an ounce of Flash anywhere.
Just wanting to post a selection of wireframes; I find it's a brilliant and creative way to convey my ideas. This post is for me and therefore really erratic; this area is something I intend to practice so I'm leaving this as a base to gradually build on.
Most of my time throughout the last few weeks has been taken up with writing the ‘dull’ side of OER, legal copy. I have spent loads of time researching Terms and Conditions, Privacy/Takedown policies, FAQs and general guidance. It has been a particularly weighty process, sifting through many legal documents, trying to understand the sentences. Some of them go for a few lines without any punctuation, it makes a difficult read. There is also no interesting way to represent this information.
I apologise for the delay in content, I have been up to my elbows in simSHARE work and with LILAC 2010, I just haven’t had any time. However, I experienced something recently that was particularly astonishing - I took my first trip to the massively blue, medieval Spon Street ruining, Coventry Ikea (that is astonishing in itself but not the point of my story).
